We have been having a blast, so much so that we have failed to keep up with the blog. 'No news is good news'. Between working, taking trips to the lake and celebrating birthdays we have been having a wonderful time.
We have been working hard. Every morning there is a line at the Kamuzu Central Hospital. We've been treating people of all ages from different parts of Malawi who have varying dental needs. We have seen cancers, accidents (especially bicycle accidents) and many, many, many, many extractions, etc. Davia's right arm is now larger than her left.
This weekend we went to Lake Malawi: Cape Maclear and Monkey Bay. There is a slight problem with gas availability but we were able to make the 4 hour trip. Saturday we took a boat to one of the islands on lake Malawi. Our guides cooked a local fish, Kampango, for us while we played in the emerald green water with some of the over 200 species of colorful fish. At Cape Maclear, we watched a beautiful sunset (pictures to come...). Monkey bay didn't have any power, but Davia learned how to rock climb and from there we saw our first hippo (from afar).
This is our outreach week where we will travel around to small villages to provide dental care that some people will not receive otherwise. We are looking forward to it, especially to break out our dental puppets to teach prevention to the children.
Zambia better be on the lookout for the 4 Malawian exodontists headed their way. Our safari leaves on Monday. We promise to post again soon.
Sincerely,
